Diary Entries August - September 1980

1st August 1980

Seen so many repeats of the Olympics that I've forgotten who won what! I know that 2 of our relay teams came 3rd & Seb Coe finally beat Steve Ovett in 1500m final. Went to shop.

2nd August 1980

Wrote to Ann. Telly crap. Saw Roger Daltrey (COR)! on stupid Fun Factory. Really boring in afternoon. Went to shop. Only good thing on telly was Dallas. If we had video we could record them!

3rd August 1980

Did nowt apart from listen to radio all day & had bath. Nice day but couldn't be bothered going out. Listened to Top 40 & watched film which was only thing on.

4th August 1980

Nowt much to say. For a start Shaz was out & we could've gone to Pleasure Beach (free) but we didn't know til we read paper. Never mind! Watched Dallas & Best Sellers.

5th August 1980

This was the most boring day so far! Couldn't be bothered calling for Shaz so stayed in all day. Wish I could see Tony. Watched Dallas. Remembered it.

6th August 1980

Today I copied a picture of a siamese cat with pencil. The reason? It was pissing it down!! After tea watched Dallas which has been best thing on telly for ages. BRILL!

7th August 1980

Rained all day so didn't go out. Made apple pie (dawdled a bit) & peeled spuds while listening to radio. Drew another cat. Wish it'd stop raining. TOTP back (changed it, not good).

8th August 1980

Wish I'd got up later cos I didn't do much apart from visit shops 3 times & peeled spuds! Quite warm day - at least it didn't rain. Watched Dallas which - yet again - was only good prog.

9th August 1980

Up late. Didn't bother me, though! Went to shop in afternoon & watched telly which wasn't brill. Actually missed Dallas to watch International It's A Knockout - we came 4th.

10th August 1980

Another fun packed day! Danny got through 1st round at Waterloo - no further but he's had the experience. Listened to Top 40 - mad cos missed Roger Daltrey! Watched film set in Henry II's time.

11th August 1980

Mum's got gastro enteritis (inflammation of the bowels) so I had to do a few daily chores. Hope she gets better cos I'm done in! I'll help her though. Watched Dallas.

12th August 1980

This morning went to shops cos Mum not any better. In fact after tea she was sent to hospital to have X-Ray on stomach. Now I know what it feels like to be depended upon (Nan too).

13th August 1980

Went shopping while Dad visited Mum (we aren't allowed cos we're not 16). Doctor at hospital hasn't even seen her yet! Joe & Nan not coming. We can cope.

14th August 1980

Went shopping (not as much as yest). Beans on 'ead for dinner. Ironed & we've decided not to let Nan come down cos she'll mither Mum when she come out.

15th August 1980

Hardly bought anything today cos we don't need owt. Mum has a form of food poisoning - not serious though. Quiet day & watched Dallas & other good progs.

16th August 1980

Started 'P' today. Only went to shops for a couple of things. Peeled spuds. Dad took our shit samples to hosp! Sun actually came out! ACE stuff on telly. Bed.

17th August 1980

Made dinner quite well! Ironed a bit & Aunty Enid visited Mum in hosp & said she's "improving." Missed Roger Daltrey on radio (got me mad that). Watched film 'Ladykillers.'

18th August 1980

Wrote to Ann. Aunty Enid came to help out a bit - makes a change from Nan! Went to shops a lot & saw nice man in butchers! Watched Dallas - good!

19th August 1980

'P' nearly worn off. Went to couple of shops. Ironed a bit. David Bowie No.1 'Ashes to Ashes.' Nan upset Mum by sending nasty letter so we're sending one to her! Watched Dallas (good).

20th August 1980

'P' wore off after I went shopping. Didn't do much. Hoping Mum'll come out soon (probably next week - B. Holiday). Listened to radio & had good tea. Watched ACE DALLAS.

21st August 1980

Went shopping. Very similar to yesterday. Listened to radio a lot. Nan went & upset Mum so Dad's gone to sort the bag out! Watched TOTP. Clash was ace!

22nd August 1980

Went shopping. Windy & sunny. Listened to radio all afternoon cos there ain't much to do. Watched telly incl 'The Awakening Land' which saw instead of Dallas.

23rd August 1980

Not much happening. Saw cute butcher all done up on a rackety bike! Best sunny day for a while! Didn't listen to radio. In 'It's a Knockout' came 3rd. No Dallas.

24th August 1980

Not very busy. Sunny for a while in afternoon & I was chuffed cos not much to do. Listened to Top 40 - The Skids, Clash & The Jam were ACE! Good film too with R. Welch.

25th August 1980

Listened to radio cos B Holiday. Saw Mum at hospital outside. CUTE! She's looking well. After tea watched film with S McQueen in. Thought it'd be good but bit of a failure!

26th August 1980

Nice, sunny day. Went shopping - in afternoon sunbathed - also listened to radio. After tea had hair cut at Mim's friend's. Short & I like it (swept forward). Watched Elvis film rpt.

27th August 1980

Up earlier. Went shopping. After dinner went to hosp instead of Dad & Mum likes my hair. Didn't do much after that. Hot day. Watched Dallas which I remembered.

28th August 1980

Lazy day. Didn't do much. Mum prob coming home tomorrow. Dull but warm. After tea watched TOTP which was good. David Bowie No.1. Looking forward to tomorrow.

29th August 1980

MUM CAME HOME. Can't go to Sylvia's yet though. Rained most of day & I listened to radio while Mum cleaned up! Watched last one of 'The Awakening' which was sad.

30th August 1980

Boring cos didn't have to do anything! Wrote to Ann saying I can go to her place on TUES. Watched telly (incl new series of Juliet Bravo.

31st August 1980

Sunny. Listened to radio most of day & went out couple of times. After tea listened to Top 40 & watched ace film called 'Crisis in MidAir' with G Peppard.

1st September 1980

Boring day. Nowt to do only peel spuds! Misty day - warm though. Radio prog moved around a bit. Telly not much good - partly cos there's no Dallas.

2nd September 1980

Went to Ann's. No I didn't! She's poorly. Actually played with Shaz in afternoon. Dan got chased by lads. We wanna know why. The Jam No.1.

3rd September 1980

Seeing as it was last day me, Janet & Shaz went to baths. They kept leaving me out though so I came home alone. Sunny day. After tea watched telly inc Morc & Wise show.

4th September 1980

BACK TO SCHOOL. What a drag! Should've come home early cos did nowt! Me & Wendy in same groups. Saw Tony 5 times & he's had his hair cut! Suits him, though. Watched telly.

5th September 1980

Enjoyed myself today! Saw Tony 4 times & when Chris Mottram said that Ann was Miss Roberts sister HE was with him & others! COR! Shorthand & Typing lessons were interesting!

6th September 1980

Went to Aunty Sylvia's. Got there at around 1/2 11. Played with their tape recorder (my tape). Didn't go anywhere but had fun! Bed early to listen to tape & to eat!

7th September 1980

Got up quite early. Played tape & others of Kaths all day. Dinner & tea were good. At half past 6 coach came to take us home. Took 3 hours. Enjoyed myself. Didn't want to come home.

8th September 1980

Quite good day today. Got Lovell instead of Topping - Hooray! Came home for dinner. Saw Tony twice - COR!! Art was boring but Geog & Biol good. Got ACE exercise book 4 Geography.

9th September 1980

Good day for lessons. Saw Tony 7 times (he makes my heart flutter, that's love)! Maths & Geog homework & bit of Shorthand too. Watched telly. Silly cow Kelly Marie's No.1 song's crap!

10th September 1980

Saw Tony 6 times & he came nr us with mates! Me & Wendy MIGHT speak to him tomorrow! Great day 4 lessons. Only had Geog hmwk so watched lots of telly. Great day!

11th September 1980

Tony didn't come over but saw him 6 times. Ann says he's bo-legged - NO WAY! Had quite good day. No HMWK so watched telly inc TOTP & TV Eye about people in Uganda.

12th September 1980

Saw Tony twice - cute! Quite good day for lessons inc typing which was ACE! Can't wait for typewriter for Xmas! Bloody Brits came 7th in It's A Knockout. Also watched 'Gentle Touch.'

13th September 1980

Got up late to watch Tiswas in my room. Not very good music on but watchable. Awful day. Went to get letters that Mum forgot. Good stuff on telly tonight incl Horror prog.

14th September 1980

Up late. Had bath after dinner. Didn't do much but read a bit & did bit of SH. Watched 'Return of the Pink Panther' with Peter Sellers. It was ACE & The Professionals.

15th September 1980

Day dragged. TONY ASKED ANN OUT! Well, his mates did 4 him. I was upset at first but still luv him! Saw him 3 times. Not much HMWK. Typing not til Wednesday.

16th September 1980

Period. Saw Tony twice. Spam asked Daz Wilson if he likes ME! He doesn't know who I am though. What'll happen next?!! Rainy day - warm. No HMWK. Did bit of SH & watched daft film (clap)!!

17th September 1980

Saw Tony twice. Mottram says TH DOES NOT like Ann. Wendy hinted that I liked him (he said 'was it girl with short blonde hair)' but she's not tellin'! Day dragged a bit & my tummy not up to food yet.

18th September 1980

Saw Tony 6 times & enjoyed it! Day dragged a bit but went quicker in afternoon. Glad to get home. No HMWK either so I could rest & enjoy watching box but TOTP didn't have Elvis on (tight)!!

19th September 1980

Felt awful in morning. Alright as 'p' wore off though. Tony cheered me up - saw himn twice & just missed him going into classroom. Did some SH but still got Maths & Eng to do. GB came 5th in Knockout.

20th September 1980

Watched Tiswas with Police's new single 'Don't Stand So Close To Me' it's ACE! Did a lot of peeling spuds, etc. Telly prog good like Juliet Bravo. Warm day - boring.

21st September 1980

Read Eng HMWK. After dinner had bath & washed hair. Warm day & sun actually came out! Listened to Top 40 which was quite good. Watched 'The Worsed of It'll Be Alright on the Night' (ACE)!

22nd September 1980

Saw Tony twice. Stared at me coming out of assembly. Day bit borin' partly cos didn't do SH or Typ. Shaz spoke to Lee - wish I could speak to Tony. He'd probably swear at me!

23rd September 1980

Saw Tony 5 times. He had ACE black n' white jacket on CUTE! Warm day again. I'm hoping to speak to Higgy (someday)! It'll have to be quick cos he won't be at school for long (Boo! Hoo!)

24th September 1980

Saw Tony 3 times (he didn't have his cute black n'white bomber jacket - shame)! Fun-packed day - I didn't say yest that POLICE were straight in at No.1. Good eh?! Very warm day.

25th September 1980

Saw Tony only once. (Wendy kept going to bog). Day bit boring but had typing lesson. No HMWK so listened to radio & watched TOTP which was crap apart from THE POLICE (gonna complain).

26th September 1980

What a borin' day! Wendy not here so on my own this morning. Saw Tony 3 times - he must've thought it was cold cos he wore his CUTE slimline duffle! Brits 5th in Knockout - crap!

27th September 1980

Up late & missed Police on Tiswas (at beginning). Went to Town but never bought owt (savin up for Alan Minter's Autobiography yer see)! Warm day & decided to do HMWK tom cos good stuff on box!

28th September 1980

Boring day. Had bath - couldn't do HMWK cos of headache. Listened to radio after tea & watched Minter v Hagler (black hypocrite cos he won)! Minter'll win next time though!

29th September 1980

Saw Tony once. Gt. innit Wendy's gonna be away all week. It's for her own good, though. Bogged down with HMWK & forgot to change Maths books! Done it on rough though!

30th September 1980

Not exciting day but Tony did come into P21 for his book & while Mottram was getting kneed by Lovell he was standing in doorway waiting for him! I didn't know what to do! Saw Higgy 4 times.
