Diary Entries November, December 1979

1st November 1979

Went to Town on me Todd & bought 3 rabbits' feet (supposed to be lucky) 50p each for mates. Top of the Pops wasn't brilliant. Got Library books. C Smith & Blankety Blank good.

2nd November 1979

Went too shops twice today. Bought white cotton 26p! At home read & listened to radio at same time! Fed Mrs Jackson's stray cat & watched box. Shaz coming back tomorrow.

3rd November 1979

POOR GRANDAD DIED THIS MORNING SUDDENLY IN BED (73). Happened suddenly & I feel sorry for Nan, Joe and rest of family. Cried all morning. Never forget his "TT Specials." :-(

4th November 1979

Not very pleasant without Grandad. Miss him. Had bath & washed hair (Nan did too). Didn't do much - read a bit & listened to Top 20. Watched telly & Roots was ace (as always).

5th November 1979

BONFIRE NIGHT. Didn't have fire. Got hang of sewing - did some at home. No HMWK but learned Physics in bed in case there is a test. Watched telly & saw Tony 5 times!

6th November 1979

Saw Tony 5 times including home time (nearly in front of me)! Didn't like games cos it was cold - had to play in team (crap)! Grandad in paper Deaths. GB 6th in It's a Knockout Final.

7th November 1979

Saw Tony twice - don't see much of him but when I do my heart jumps! Did HMWK & also watched telly which wasn't very exciting. Read in bed & learned Spanish.

8th November 1979

Saw Tony 4 times. Cold day. Had lot HMWK. Great Aunty Lizzie, Jane & Nan & rest of family here after Grandad's funeral. Lena Martel still No.1 but I hope XTC move cos I like their song!

9th November 1979

Saw Tony 3 times. Didn't have much HMWK so watched telly (which was load of clap)! Stayed up late & had swig of Carlsberg Special. COLOUR TELLY TOMORROW!

10th November 1979

Went to Town & bought Ann perfume, me stud ear-rings. Came home to find our lovely colour telly stood there! Watched film, Freddie Starr, The Professionals on it! Ace!

11th November 1979

Remembrance Sunday. Watched allsorts on new telly! Including Roots & Shoestring.

12th November 1979

Got cold from Dan. Saw Tony 6 times. He was at ice-cream van at 5.15! No HMWK so watched a lot on telly. Nearly finished skirt! MIRACLE!

13th November 1979

OFF SCHOOL TODAY. Don't know if I'm going tomorrow but I do know that it's cold! Watched telly all day. Boring but warm & peaceful!

14th November 1979

Birthday Prince Charles. Although Mum decided to let me stay off today but think I'm going tomorrow. I was bored stiff!

15th November 1979

Only saw Tony once. Had lot work to catch up on - managed to finish though. Not fair Miss World Contest hit by dispute but they showed winner Miss Bermuda. Miss UK came 2nd.

16th November 1979

PERIOD. Saw Tony 3 times. In assembly near back TH few feet in front & I looked at ground & afterwards Ann said that TH looked round at me & smiled (don't know why)?!

17th November 1979

Swap Shop & some of Grandstand disrupted by BBC staff. I think it's for sound, lighting etc. When will it end? Watched telly a lot. Dallas back on (didn't watch The Professionals).

18th November 1979

Period a nuisance - as always. Couldn't be bothered with anything but still baked cakes. Listened to radio. Bath. Watched Juggernaut film; bomb disposal expert on ship called Tony - got rid of bomb.

19th November 1979

Horrible day cos it's Monday! Ann ignored me when I spoke to her. Don't care (not today anyway)! Got HMWK when we shouldn't have. Saw Tony 3 times. COR!

20th November 1979

Saw Tony once. I can't stand 'The Curse!' Games was 'orrible cos it was damp, cold & very foggy. Watched Disco UK Championships which was ACE. Tired.

21st November 1979

Mohammedan New Year 1400. Kept thinking it was Thurs today! Saw TH 0 times. Beginning to forget things again. Watched telly.

22nd November 1979

Thanksgiving Day (USA). Didn't feel well today. Kept forgetting things including how to do HMWK. Can't even do Physics or Maths. Do Geog tomorrow!

23rd November 1979

Deborah's Birthday (14). STAYED OFF SCHOOL - again. Cold & my eyes hurt. Watched box at night but not during the day. Managed to do Geog HMWK - Phys yet!

24th November 1979

Couldn't watch television - had to sit in extension. Hope I don't have to have another eye test cos I hate them! Managed to watch Dallas - felt sick.

25th November 1979

Kept going from one room to another cos of my eyes. Doctor going to come tomorrow but I might have to go to him. Watched portable.

26th November 1979

'FRAID I HAD TO STAY OFF SCHOOL AND GOT PRESCRIBED PILLS FOR MIGRAINE WHICH I'VE FOT THRU' STRAIN, AWFUL DAY. TELLY TOO BRIGHT.

27th November 1979

DIDN'T KNOW WHAT I WOZ DOING SO I STAYED OFF. DON'T KNOW IF I SHOULD GO TOMORROW DIDN'T FEEL UP TO IT. BORING AT HOME.

28th November 1979

I STAYED OFF TODAY. THINK I'M GOING TOMORROW. SAW SHAZ AND SHE SAYS I'VE BEEN MISSED AT SCHOOL - SOON FIND OUT WHY! BORED.

29th November 1979

Back to school. Didn't really miss much work - in fact wasn't a bad day but not looking forward to next Phys lesson cos haven't finished diagram.

30th November 1979

St Andrew's Day (Scot). Saw Tony 3 times. At dinner-time we all thought there was a scrap going on - wasn't! Stayed in for Miss Day. Watched telly (bored)!

1st December 1979

Up 1030am (late for Sat). 'Tiswas' & went to Town with Sharon & got her present (English Dictionary). Bored after tea so watched telly including Dallas.

2nd December 1979

1st Day in Advent. Up same time as yesterday. Had bath & generally lazy day. Watched film The Hot Rock & Variety Performance. Listened to Top 20.

3rd Decedmber 1979

Saw Tony 6 times. Boring day but at least didn't get HMWK. Did Eng from last week. Watched lot of telly but quite boring. Tired (not looking forward to Physics).

4th December 1979

Saw Tony 4 times. No games cos of Badminton so finished HMWK at school. Not bad things on telly. Getting nearer Christmas. Looking forward to it.

5th December 1979

Saw Tony 5 times (he's lovely). Darrel in his class & has threatened to tell him! Not fair got 'orrible Physics test tomorrow.

6th December 1979

Saw Tony twice. 6 1/2 in Phys test but got couple marks yet. Only got Maths HMWK. Top of the Pops rubbish apart from Police No.1 'Walking on the Moon.' ACE.

7th December 1979

Didn't see Tony so he was probably absent. No HMWK for a change. Watched telly upstairs and down. Going to Ann's tomorrow afternoon.

8th December 1979

Watched Swap Shop & Tiswas. Went to Ann's at one. Had ace time. Couldn't find Replay pen though. Came home at 7 to watch telly.

9th December 1979

Got up at 1/2 11 today. Boring as always on Sundays. Had bath. Mainly watched telly all day. Chrimbo tree up. Sebastian Coe won BBC award for Sport. Boring day!

10th December 1979

Saw Tony 5 times. Mod 6 (lad me and Shaz like - don't know his name). Looking forward to tomorrow's trip - will miss Tony & MOD though. Boring things on telly.

11th December 1979

GOING ON TRIP. Saw Tony once. Trip to Helmshore a bit boring really but got out of Games! Got home at around 1/4 to 7. Watched television at home.

12th December 1979

OPTICIAN. Saw MOD & Tony each once. Hardly have to wear specs only when I need them. Got boots from Town. Watched television.

13th December 1979

Saw Tony 4 times. MOD 5. Lucky day. Weather rainy but mild. Looking forward to holiday. PINK FLOYD No.1 'Brick in the Wall' ream! Also on 'Blankety Blank.'

14th December 1979

Saw Tony twice & MOD 5. No HMWK. Getting to like MOD more cos I know he goes through Boundary Park. Had a good view of his aaaaarm! Watched telly.

15th December 1979

Went to Town with Wendy - never again! She kept going to different shops, she kept saying 'Must get this, must get that.' Silly iriot! Bought Regal pen - no Replays - not fair!

16th December 1979

Up early, don't know why cos boring day. Had bath & watched television all day including boring film. Bed early cos wanted to watch BBC film.

17th December 1979

Tricia Smith's Birthday (14). Saw Tony, MOD & Nigel all once. Carol Service boring. Bought chips 20p - ace. Very windy day. Roof of Derby Baths caved in! No HMWK & watched telly. Bed early.

18th December 1979

Saw Tony twice, MOD 3 times. Boring day (at least not as windy) rained though. Watched WORLD DISCO CHAMPIONSHIP, UK girl beat 31 others! Great! Had early night.

19th December 1979

Saw Tony once & MOD 3 times. Period due today but it didn't come so it's obviously going to be late. Rumour round school saying that no party tomorrow. Ann back at school & getting me bag for tomorrow.

20th December 1979

CHRISTMAS (BREAK UP TODAY)! Didn't see Tony or MOD but did see Nigel. No parties - tight. Going to Town tomorrow with Mum. Received Sports Bag off Ann, it's ace & big too!

21st December 1979

Going to Town. Still not started period. Got home from Town late - what I mean is we were there for AGES although I haven't got Roots book yet - try again tomorrow!

22nd December 1979

Didn't go to Town but watched telly all day - boring really. Got some wrapping paper for Mum. Dallas wasn't brill but all right. Also film.

23rd December 1979

Had bath & watched stupid Fairy Tale film. Boring on telly apart from ace film at night 'The Poseidon Adventure' ship turns upside down - only 6 people managed to escape.

24th December 1979

CHRISTMAS EVE. Christmas is on its way! Really looking forward to tomorrow! Only 'Ben Hur' any good on telly which I've seen before. Bet I can't sleep!

25th December 1979

CXHRISTMAS DAY. Up at 3am!! Got Artmaster DoodleArt, necklace, ear-rings, perfume, tapes (recorded a few things), books incl 'Tell Me Why', straits, cuddly bears. 'The Sting' film good.

26th December 1979

BOXING DAY. Up 12pm! Better than yesterday! Finished one 'DoodleArt' picture. Recorded few stuff on tape (from radio). Also started on an 'Artmaster' painting picture (colourful day). Champions film - love story on telly.

27th December 1979

Up at 10. Recorded groups like SKIDS! Glad I've got that. I've got that Artmaster out & did bit of DoodleArt too. Also watched telly & read 'Tell Me Why' book in bed.

28th December 1979

Listened to radio & tape (although maybe something wrong with one I've recorded on now - or could be actual recording). Boring day & cold day (it rained). Borin' telly!

29th December 1979

Didn't paint today. Played about with DoodleArt & started reading 'Omen.' Telly rubbish apart from Dallas which made Mum & me cry.

30th December 1979

Danny never went with Joe. Started Curse & made everyone's life a misery with it. If only they knew perhaps I'll be a bit happier (bet I won't).

31st December 1979

NEW YEAR'S EVE. Hope to God I can behave myself during new year & stop worrying about nothing! Can't concentrate on my work (what work)?!
