Diary Entries August 1979

1st August 1979

Watched box (nothing else to do). Gaz & Neil brought tape recorder & we all listened to it outside. Saw Wendy & Alison at bus stop. Watched 'Benny Hill Show.'

2nd August 1979

Went to Town in afternoon. Didn't have enough money to buy a single but tomorrow I will buy either Sparks or Boomtown Rats (who are still at No.1). Don't know which one to get.

3rd August 1979

Didn't do much except go to Town to buy Sparks record (sold out of Boomtown Rats & Dave Edmunds). Played cricket most of day (randy fella came down).

4th August 1979

43rd sunny day. Started today (right on time). Couldn't play games so I went to see Nan in hospital. Had tea at Grandad's & watched telly at home (good).

5th August 1979

Didn't do much. Shaz didn't come out till late on (don't know why). Played cricket on field but came back early (44th sunny day). Watched last one of 'Centennial.'

6th August 1979

45th sunny day. Shaz, Rich, Roger & Steve went off to baths (I couldn't go cos of you know what). Sharon knew this too. Played cricket & went to Library (big part).

7th August 1979

Watched cricket on telly in morning cos it rained. Me & Joe looked everywhere for battery & found one for pick-up truck. Joe's teaching me how to drive car (Mini). Played cricket on field.

8th August 1979

Generally lazing around when I could've been playing out. 46th sunny day. Baked & had bath, watched box for a bit. Nothing on so read in bed (it was ace).

9th August 1979

Period ended today. Shaz & Steve went to trip & nobody played out all day. Went to Grandad's. Cold day but came nice later. Watched 'Top of the Pops' The Rats still No.1. 'Citizen Smith' was on.

10th August 1979

Sharon went to baths with Playscheme. 47th sunny day. Phil, Roger & Dan went to Pictures so I couldn't do much really. Went to hospital to see Nana.

11th August 1979

Didn't do much in morning & Sharon's Mum wouldn't let her clean cars with me or go to baths tomorrow (tight). Went to Library with her and Claire. Played cricket too.

12th August 1979

All I did today was visit Nan in hospital & had tea at Grandad's. Went to den but had to come back (47th sunny day). Watched 'Psycho' film based on book I read last week (finished at 1am).

13th August 1979

Went to baths on my own cos Sharon's not allowed to go. Rained after I helped Sharon choose her books in Library. Came in to read my book on Ghosts which I chose the other day.

14th August 1979

Shaz going on trips all week. Couldn't play out anyway cos of weather. Stayed in to read in the extension while Grandad slept. Very boring on box so I had an early night to read.

15th August 1979

Brighter day but windy. Had bad tummy ache so I stayed in to read again & listened to radio too. Later on played with Shaz. Rained so ironed a bit for Mum (ache not gone).

16th August 1979

Ironed for Mum after dinner cos rained again. Then went to Kwik Save with Grandad & Joe. Repeat of 'Top of the Pops' (2 weeks ago) cos of recording dispute. 'Citizen Smith' also on. Very good.

17th August 1979

No cricket on cos of rain. Wasn't that brilliant here either! Went to Library after I had a bath & washed hair. Visited Nana in hospital & she looks much better. Watched telly & bed.

18th August 1979

Watched Joe & Danny play bowls at Anchorsholme. Wrote back to Ann with help from Sharon! Didn't do anything so I had another early night (footy started earlier).

19th August 1979

49th sunny day. Went to hospital in afternoon & after that me & Danny went to Grandad's for our tea. Listened to radio & had ANOTHER early night!

20th August 1979

Sunny for most of day. Went to shop & watched cricket. Very boring day (telly wasn't too clever either). Film 'Grand Prix' was on in 2 parts & carried on until 11pm. Very boring.

21st August 1979

50th sunny day. Went to Town & Mum bought new school skirt, shoes, socks, knickers & Gym Top - very chuffed. Cricket a draw. Went to see Nana in hospital - she's well.

22nd August 1979

51st sunny day. All I did was watch County Cricket. Visited hospital in afternoon at night cos nowt on box. Dad's hoping to get colour television. ACE. Had early night.

23rd August 1979

Seen 54 'V' Reg cars. Even more boring than yesterday cos it rained! Had bath after I went to Library with other ticket. Cliff No.1 with 'We Don't Talk Anymore.'

24th August 1979

Wastn't very well today. Had stomach ache & Joe wasn't too good either. Led on couch all day holding my head. Went to bed very early at 6.30pm but couldn't sleep.

25th August 1979

Totally recovered and went to post letter to Ann. 52nd sunny day but cooler so I stayed in. Watched daft film called Batman - gave good laugh though.

26th August 1979

53rd sunny day. Played all sorts of games today starting with cricket, then badminton, football & played relays on bikes & also Releasio. Ace day cos Shaz back from Durham (good).

27th August 1979

Summer Holiday (Scotland, Eire). 54th sunny day. Shaz & Steve at Pleasure Beach so I sunbathed. Didn't do much when they came back. Watched true film 'The Great Escape.' It was ace.

28th August 1979

Started period (11 days early). 55th sunny day. Cleaned my bike & rode with Sharon. Played Releasio awhile & washed hair. Dried it upstairs where I could read book.

29th August 1979

56th sunny day. Played 'Releasio' all day - I hate being on. Danny stopped it to play football so I came in to watch the box. Nowt much on.

30th August 1979

57th sunny day. Kept going to shop on bike. Made an appointment to have my hair done next Thursday. Watched 'Top of the Pops.' Cliff Richard still No.1 (bed early).

31st August 1979

58th sunny day. Been best week of hols cos it's been sunny! Had bath to try & get rid of period. Messed with make-up & got stuff to get it off with. Played football & Releasio. (HOT).
