Diary Entries January 1979

1st January 1979

Snowed all day. A bit boring. Mum wouldn't let me go out. Watched film 'Kelly's Heroes' with Clint Eastwood & Tele Savalas. Bed 10pm.

2nd January 1979

Rained instead of snowed. Not as cold as yesterday. Went to shop for 2 cans (drinks). Watched boring film in afternoon. Listened to my radio in bed (Radio 1).

3rd January 1979

Snowed again & it was colder than yesterday. Had a bit of fresh air when 'Pebble Mill' was on. Went to bed early to listen to radio again.

4th January 1979

Stopped snowing & it wasn't as cold. Still icy though. On 'Top of the Pops' there was Elton John & Ian Dury & The Blockheads. Village People No.1 with "YMCA". Listened to radio.

5th January 1979

Weatherman said it'd be "warmer" but it's not. Didn't go out, too cold. Watched 'The Liver Birds' & 'Citizen Smith' (Cor)! Listened to my radio at 9.45pm.

6th January 1979

Must go to Town with my pound. Epiphany. Got up & watched 'Swap Shop.' Couldn't go to Town 'cos of fuel shortage on buses. I didn't get my £1 back. Repeat of 'Starsky & Hutch.'

7th January 1979

Must learn Spanish & French Vocabulary. Watched tennis final McEnroe & Fleming v Nastase & Stewart (1st two won). Don't want to go to school. Went to bed to forget it.

8th January 1979

Go back to school. Start at 9.30am. Luckily there will be a shortage of fuel so can't go on Wednesday. Was sick at school (nice way to start the term). Had an early night.

9th January 1979

Not a bad day at school. Saw T.H. (I AM ASSUMING THIS IS TONY HIGGINBOTTOM AS I FANCIED HIM FROM AFAR FOR AT LEAST 2 YEARS) COR! Mum was at my school washing 'cos she was sent from St. Catherine's (closed down). Had another early night.

10th January 1979

No school today, no fuel. Could get up late at 10.15am. Had beans on toast & I went to the shop. Had to do some ? (glad really 'cos telly crap)! Bed early.

11th January 1979

No school again. Got up at 10am & after dinner went to Sharon's & did jigsaw. Uncle Joe & Grandad came to tea & we all went to see Nana in hospital (broke hip). "YMCA" still no.1.

12th January 1979

No school YET AGAIN. Got up much earlier. Did same jigsaw at Sharon's again. Joe, Grandad came again. Nothing much on the box. Bed later.

13th January 1979

Nana's Birthday. Got her a card. Went to Town on my own. Bought my pen I am writing with & No.7 Lip Gloss, thin & stays on longer than Max Factor.

14th January 1979

Stayed in 'cos it was too cold. Bit boring really. Did homework & I'm not looking forward to tomorrow (school) or Tuesday (Optician). Bed early to revise.

15th January 1979

Exams on 29.1.79. Not a bad day. At least I wasn't sick. Didn't have much homework but I revised Spanish. Clothes off David. Bed early to revise Spanish.

16th January 1979

Opticians 2.15pm. Hardly have to wear specs. Saw Higgy 3 times (had his hair cut). COR! I think he likes a girl in his class but he only speaks to her. Shouldn't get jealous should I?

17th January 1979

Saw T.H. 4 times. Got ink on wall when Mum & Dad were out. Most of it is off now. Went to bed quick before they came in.

18th January 1979

Dan's told Mum about the ink. Dad doesn't know. Saw Higgy 4 times again. On 'Top of the Pops' The Blockheads on & Village People's "YMCA" No.1.

19th January 1979

Started period today. Early. Saw Tony 4 times (my God he's fit)! Not bad day at school. Snowed in afternoon. There were only 2 good things on the box.

20th January 1979

Watched 'Swap Shop' with Kate Bush. Snowed most of the day. Didn't go out. Instead watched Rubgy Union. Wales beat Scotland 19-13. Had can shandy. 'Starsky & Hutch' rubbish.

21st January 1979

Didn't do much. Revised a bit. Also watched football. Icy today. Watched an ace film about a gambler that cheated & 'That's Life' was good.

22nd January 1979

Uncle Joe's birthday. Mum, Dad & rest family on Strike for today. Nana out of hospital. Mum & Dad went to see her. I watched a film. Nothing on at night.

23rd January 1979

Back to School. Had RE Exam. I didn't even know! Not fair, got 32%, Ann 36%. Did homework & revised. Can't find any English text books.

24th January 1979

Only saw Tony twice. Yesterday he had rugby football shorts on, COR! Bag has been stitched, bot it back today. Rained. Revised at home & in bed because nowt on telly. Bed early.

25th January 1979

Ann away. Saw Higgy 5 times. Games outside. Didn't do Cookery. On 'Top of the Pops' THE BLOCKHEADS are No.1 with 'Hit me with your rythmn stick.' Revised in bed. Finished period today.

26th January 1979

Snowed a while. Thick on ground now. Got a cold because of it. Revised at home. Nowt on telly so I revised in bed as well.

27th January 1979

Wasn't well. Got a cold. Revised & watched telly. Weren't allowed out. Too cold anyway. Revised in bed (ILL, THOUGH).

28th January 1979

Not well so I had to stay in & revise all day as it snowed outside. Not looking forward to tomorrow's exams. YUCH!

29th January 1979

Start Exams. Had English & Physics exams. Didn't like them. Revised in bed. Maths & French for tomorrow's exams, 2 hours. YUCH!

30th January 1979

FRENCH & MATHS EXAMS. Didn't like them. Didn't see Tony today. Wasn't much on the television but I revised a lot anyway. Also in bed.

31st January 1979

HAD CHEMISTY & GEOGRAPHY EXAMS. Enjoyed them. Saw Tony twice. Watched 'Lucky Numbers.' Nothing much on so I went to bed after 'Morecambe & Wise' to revise.
